PageManager, like PaperPort, builds its own toolbar of supported applications. Working with a 300-dpi black-and-white file, however, PageManager did an excellent job with the documents we scanned. But where PaperPort will warn you if your image file is not in the correct format or of sufficient resolution, PageManager will try to recognize a file that has too low a resolution and do a bad job of conversion. In both programs, dragging a scanned image of a document onto an application button, such as one for Microsoft Word, will perform optical character recognition (OCR) on the file automatically and send formatted text to the application. PageManager automatically stacked multipage images into a single document, whereas PaperPort required an extra step. We had no trouble scanning single or multipage documents using the HP OfficeJet G85 multifunction device on a system running Microsoft Windows XP.
